  1. New E-mail domains for use at Red Shift

1. New E-mail domains for use at Red Shift

While having an E-mail address @redshift.com is quite nice, we recognize that our clients enjoy having options. We have reserved some new domains that you can select as additional E-mail addresses. Red Shift clients can have E-mail addresses at several different domains simultaneously in fact. For example a username such as jsmith could have addresses such as jsmith@redshift.com, jsmith@montereyshores.com, jsmith@montereylocals.com or one of many others with more coming.

The fee for the use of additional domains for your username is $1 each per month or 5 for $3 per month. Currently it is necessary to either call in to signup for each that you would like or contact us by E-mail at sales@redshift.com. In the future you will be able to signup for them online. Don’t delay if you want to reserve your unique username at one of our additional domains, once they are taken that’s it. Contact us at sales@redshift.com or 831-655-8710 to reserve E-mail addresses at these domains.

2. DSL coming to new parts of Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove

Many sections of Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove have waited a very long time for broadband.. That wait will soon be over. New areas of Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach will be open for DSL broadband very soon. Give us a call at 831-655-8710 to signup for DSL or E-mail us at sales@redshift.com if you’re in one of these areas and are interested.

3. High speed being deployed in new areas (Creekbridge, Oak Hills, Los Laureles Grade)

We are working hard to expand our wireless broadband coverage aggressively in 2003. There are many areas within Monterey County still cut off from access to broadband Internet. Our goal is to get broadband into as many of those remaining areas as possible this year. In the first quarter of this year we are already actively working broadband in the Creekbridge area of Salinas, Oak Hills in Castroville and Los Laureles Grade (East Side near Chamisal).

In Quarter 2 we are looking at constructing towers in the following areas(subject to change):

Gonzales
101 South corridor
Carmel Valley Village

4. Optional adult content filtering server now available

Those of us with children are often appalled at what can be too easily uncovered on the Internet. You even have to be careful about accidentally mistyping an address as you may get a shocking surprise. Anyone who finds adult content is disturbing their Internet experience will be interested in our latest development to help with these situations.

Red Shift has installed a proxy web server that will filter out adult content for you. It is free of charge to anyone subscribed to Red Shift can use it to filter web content for their children, themselves or for anyone for that matter. To use it you simply tell your browser to filter your web addresses through our server called “guardian.redshift.com”. Guardian is highly effective but not perfect, we cannot guarantee it will catch absolutely everything but it will block the vast majority of it for you.

Please find below simple instructions to guide you through setting guardian in Internet Explorer (most versions). If you run into trouble, please call us or E-mail us for help (support@redshift.com).

Click on “Tools”
Click on “Internet Options”
Now choose the “Connections” folder tab

If you’re a dialup customer, highlight the Red Shift Internet Option Then click on “Settings”. If you’re a DSL or other broadband client see below.

Now click on the “Use a proxy server for this connection” box
Put in the address “guardian.redshift.com” then 8080 for the port

If you’re a DSL or other broadband customer click on LAN Settings

Then click on the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” box
Put in the address “guardian.redshift.com” then 8080 for the port

You’re done. All web content will now be filtered and drop out adult material so that the computer will never display it, not even a search engine will return results for adult material.

NOTE: If you find that guardian is erroneously blocking a site you would like to get to, you can set your browser to bypass guardian for that specific site.

To do this
Click on “Tools”
Click on “Internet Options”
Now choose the “Connections” folder tab
Click on “Advanced”
Enter the sites you want to bypass in the Exceptions box.
