Mac Mail

In order to setup your email on Mozilla Thunderbird you will need a few things:

  • An active internet connection (To make sure it works)
  • Username
  • Password
  • Incoming and Outgoing email servers settings

The following screen shots come from a Mac OS X 10.5.8 PowerPC G5 using Mac Mail 3.6 (936). This is an older configuration but the placement for most of the settings are the same across most version of OS X.

Adding an email account to of Mac Mail

Step 1)

Open the Mac Mail program and this will likely be the first screen you see. Click the File > Add Account.

Step 2) Now you will be at the account setup screen. Enter your name, email address, password, then click the continue button.

Step 3) Once you have done that click continue and Mac Mail will ask you for the incoming mail server settings as well as the account type (IMAP or POP usually).

Step 4) Click Continue, then enter the appropriate outgoing server settings.

Review the entered settings then click the “Create” button to finish the set up process.

Edit email account settings for existing Mac Mail installation

Step 1) Enter the account settings by going to Mail > Prefrences.

Step 2)

Select your email address in the left hand column, then edit the appropriate settings in the right column.  There will be a few tabs at the top of the right column that can be used to switch between the Account Information, Mail Behavior, and Advanced sections.

Step 3) On the Account Information tab, go to the bottom of the right column, and click the outgoing server drop down menu. This will give the option to select on outgoing server or edit the server list. Click “Edit Server List”

Step 4) Select the the server you would like to edit from the top row.  Use the bottom row to edit the outgoing server  settings for the “Account Information” and “Advanced” tabs.
