Why Do New Computers Seem to Slow Down?
Have you noticed that your new computer seems to be getting slower? PC’s often are shipped from the factory with what we in the business like to call “bloatware” or “teaseware”(software tryouts or offers). This usually unnecessary software comes preinstalled and may be running in the background. In most cases it simply slows down your PC’s performance by using your cpu and taking up your RAM memory. Also the system registry becomes larger and larger as more applications that are added and removed as well as the data on the disk becoming fragmented. Firewall and anti virus software needed to try and keep the system safe really uses up a lot of resources. The solution is to keep unneeded software from automatically starting up, clean the registry, run the most efficient virus protection and keep the hard disk defragmented.
Is Search Engine Optimization Important For Web site Traffic?
Search engine optimization is a process designed to obtain higher rankings on search engines. This process includes properly coding your web pages and adding relevant keywords and content. The benefit of proper optimization is that your website will rank higher on the major search engines, which will increase traffic to your website. There is no single solution for obtaining higher placement in the search results, but carefully monitoring your current web traffic and making adjustments to your content can lead to better placement in the search engines and therefore greater traffic to your website.
|Red Shift In the Community
By Tony Cricelli, CTO
Red Shift was honored on Tuesday, February 3rd, at the Monterey City Council meeting for achieving our Certified Green Business status. I am very proud of the great job our staff is doing for our environment as well as for our customers.
Red Shift Salinas Store manager, Aaron Suthers, and our Director of Sales, Chris Rauber, were invited as guest speakers to The Monterey Bay Users Group – Personal Computer (MBUG-PC) group meeting on February 6th. The meeting was a huge success, there were lots of great questions asked and our twenty minute presentation turned into a one and a half hour discussion. We would like to publicly thank Carolyn Lake and all of MBUG-PC members for the opportunity to interact and answer their Internet and communication related questions.
Virus Clean-Up Special
Cyber-terrorists are creating better and smarter virus programs every day, and evil online advertisers can use those virus programs to infect many computers. However, it does not stop there. The infected computers send out even more spam, often using the E-mail addresses from the address book of the infected computer as the appeared sender of the spam.
We recommend that you update your anti-virus software often, never download anything to your computer if you are not 100% sure about the server, and do not open attachments from unknown senders. But even if you do all of the above, a virus can still sneak by, especially if you have young ones at home sharing your computer.
If you suspect your computer is infected, even if you are running anti-virus software, bring it to us and we will use our Deep Scan Technology to find and kill any virus programs found. We are currently running the advertisement below, which you can find in the Californian and the Coast Weekly. Take advantage of this special virus clean up rate today!
New Red Shift Web Designer
Red Shift continues to add quality people to our staff and we welcome Ian Ferguson to our Red Shift team. Ian has been working locally as a graphic designer and web developer for the past 15 years. His strong background in every aspect of the web development process, from designing user interfaces to search engine optimization, is a great compliment to our other web services. In addition to working as an in-house web developer, Ian’s main focus is the Red Shift re-launch of the www.MontereyBay.com web site. The www.MontereyBay.com business directory will be made available at no charge to all local area businesses. Our goal is to drive Internet traffic to the site in order to promote local products and services. We understand that when our local economy grows, our community benefits including Red Shift. We look forward to helping visitors as well as all local residents.
